Cheap lawyer vs. expensive one. Does it really matter which one you choose?
Today I had a consultation with a family law attorney regarding the horrible things that have been done to me and my family over the past 3 years such as putting my little girl in a marajuana user’s home, on a street with 8 pedifile neighbors, going to a daycare where she constantly gets sick and hurt, and termination of her child support just to name a few. I could not afford a lawyer at past hearings and did not have the money to keep appealing the orders. I also just recently had to go bankrupt because every penny I make goes to only the necessities of the household and my children. The lawyer said it would cost me ,000.00 to get my daughter out of that horrible place and back where she belongs here with me and her brother. What would you do? Would you take out a home equity loan if you could and pay her the k, or would you look for a cheaper lawyer who could go through the same proceedures for you as she would? We’re Buy Amoxil talking house inspections, mental health tests etc…

what matters is which lawyer is in cahoots with the judge.
I think that lawyer is fairly steep I suggest finding a mid-grade lawyer something in the $5,000-$6,000 mark
If you can easily show these conditions you said your daughter is living in then you don’t need an expensive lawyer. You will need a competent one though.
You should keep looking plus 10,000 is alot of money try to find a lawyer who would want a certain amount to take the case not the entire amount at one time … Best of luck
I personally would trust a less expensive lawyer more.
Check into other things, that sounds high and how did you lose your daughter in the first place? If that is resolved, then you should have abetter chance. Check into free legal counsel, most towns offer it and check about lawyers who take hardship cases and takes payments. I had an expensive one and ended up getting rid of her and representing myself and won. Keep your chin up.
The more expensive the attorney the harder the paralegal is going to work for that attorney. You are asking us if your child is worth an equity loan. I know what my answer would be. Do you really have to ask that question or are you just typing it so you understand what needs to be done? But also you can negotiate the final price with the attorney before she takes the case. She should fudge a-little bit on the price if she really wants the case…. And a woman lawyer, its brilliant, yes go with a woman, Wemon lawyers will be more sympathetic too the way you are feeling. She will most likely over kill the case and will put you in a position to get dang near get anything you want as far as your custody agreement, definantly get Full Custody NOT JOINT..
Personally, I would do whatever it took to gain custody of my daughter-including a home equity loan.
An expensive attorney is not necessarily better than a cheap attorney. An expensive attorney has probably earned himself a reputation based upon the settlements he has reached and, therefore, feels he can charge more because people will perceive him to be more effective because of the big "wins". There are expensive attorneys who are good and expensive attorneys who are just average and not worth their hourly rate.
I would recommend that you meet with 2 or 3 different attorneys to see who you feel more comfortable with. That will make a huge difference. Also, keep in mind….is the office organized; is the staff friendly; is the attorney on time; is the attorney preoccupied. No attorney can guarantee you anything-keep that in mind.
You could check with the bar association (they license attorneys) for the state you live in to see if a particular attorney you are interested in has ever had any discipline action taken by them. If so, probably not a good choice.
You could, and should, go to court on a day that a divorce trial is going on and sit in on it and watch the attorneys in action. Most court hearings are open to the public. You can find out when court is in session by calling the Family Court in your area.
In the meantime, be sure that you are being a good parent to your son; don’t be out partying; don’t be using drugs; don’t be bringing strange men into your home; don’t have parties at your house; don’t associate with criminals or drug users. Be sure to have as much contact with your daughter as you can (and keep a record of the dates). The negative can be used against you.
Good luck.
Hiring a lawyer for minor legal problems can be expensive, but there are websites like LawGuru, FindLaw and other places where you can get free legal advice. I found this website useful – http://www.uelp.org/freelegal.html
