Does anybody know of a good but cheap child support attorney in Des Moines Iowa?? I’m desperate PLEASE HELP?
i am desperate guys and gals. my daughters mother has made my online prescription drugs life hell since day one. she filed a protective order on me after i left her, i told her 3 weeks later that i would be with her and she dropped the protective order. she threatens me with court, and lawyers and kidnapping every time i have visitation with my daughter. Their is no court order for custody, visitation, or child support at the time, but i was served papers yesterday regarding court for paternity, and child support. i have tons of documentation between me and my child’s mom where she is threatening me, telling me she hopes i die and i can see my daughter if she isn’t insane or feeling insane at that point. im at my wits end and don’t have much left in me. i don’t make much money 21k year, and attempted to go through Iowa Legal Aid, but since my child’s mother went thier, they advised me it would be a conflict of interest to help me.
Sounds like you need a child custody lawyer, not support. Support you are going to have to pay no matter what you make. That is normally set following a guideline based on your income and her income.
If you want time with your daughter, then you need to file for visitation or even shared custody so you can at least know she is safe when she’s with you.

They’ll determine the amount of child support you’ll pay by your income. You’ll still have to pay it every month even though she’s an evil witch. But what she doesn’t realize is that she CANNOT keep her child from you, she could get in a lot of trouble. Once you go for the hearing, let them know all this. They should inform her of what she cannot do. But either way you will still have to pay your child support even if she keeps your child from you (even though she legally can’t). Just call around to some places and see what their rates are!! Its better if you get an attorney, so try to find someway to afford it! sorry you’re going through all this mess, my boyfriend goes through alot of the same things as you, women like that give us good women a bad name!

You don’t really need a child support lawyer.. Child support is NOT a popularity contest.. It’s a numbers game, nothing more….. They’ll use your income, her income and the amount of time the child is with each of you..that’s it….. Now. If you want to keep a log of all of her threats and nuttiness, you could use that at your CUSTODY hearing.. Don’t waste money on a lawyer for the support meeting..
EDIT: Oh, and PS.. Some people on here are wrong.. If there is no visitation or custody order she can let you see the child whenever she does, or does not want to. Once you have a court order, she won’t be able to deny you visitation..

You need a family law attorney. Child support is based on time spent with your child and the income of both parties. Time spent with the child is a HUGE factor when calculating child support.
Child support and custody/visitation are separate. You need to get an order for visitation and/or custody and when you’re in court, ask the judge what happens when she does not allow you to see your child? Take all the documentation that you have with you.
Do a google search for fathers rights in Des Moines, Iowa . They should also be able to refer you to an attorney.
