How much does a Criminal Defense Lawyer cost for murder charges?

I have a step brother who needs a good lawyer. His charges are premeditated murder and felony murder, with several other suspects in the case who are all gang members. He’s not really online drugs without prescription a gang member. So far we found a lawyer for 35k. Can we get lower? What other costs do we need to be aware of with lawyers so we can establish everything up front? Thanks.
Different lawyers have different rates.*
I am sure you can find an even crappier lawyer for less than $35k, but you are already scraping the bottom of the barrel. Why not just use the public defender? You’ll probably get better service.
As in most things, you get what you pay for.
