Is it a good idea to get a tax appeal done through a lawyer?

I have two questions?
1. Tax appeal, better done by yourself or by a lawyer. (Finance is not an issue.)
2. How high can the cost usually run for such a case? I know it varies, but there’s got to be a range. If you don’t know the range, but you’ve done through a lawyer, how much did it cost you?

I’d use not a lawyer but a tax accountant familiar with IRS appeals. The cost will be $50 – 200/ hour.
