Maricopa County Sheriff’s employee takes documents from defense attorney

A detention officer with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is caught on tape swiping a document from a defense attorney’s files behind her back. Officer Adam Stoddard then hands the document to overseas online pharmacy Deputy Francisco Campillo to make photocopies. This is the original video, as obtained by freelance journalist Nick Martin. I cannot believe Arpaio instructed to disobey the Judge’s orders. The deputy should be in jail because of what he did. Arpaio is a vile, disgusting human being (allegedly) and the only reason he is in office is because the old people in Sun City keep voting for him. If he wants to deport people so bad he should be working for ICE. One day the corruption will catch up to him, & before a random youtube bigot decides to tell me to go back to my country, lets set the record straight- I’m a citizen!

The court officer should be fired and possibility jailed. Going into a attorney’s work-product papers is as bad as it gets.
What an idiot. If this happened anywhere else the judge would’ve held the court officer in contempt of court along with theft and other charges. As much as Sheriff Joe Arpaio is fighting illegal immigration he and his deputies have not once shown any respect for our American institutions and procedures. Now thanks to this idiot deputy this is grounds for every case conducted by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to be appealed and remember one thing, cases HAVE BEEN THROWN OUT FOR MUCH LESS!!
The deputy in question *was* getting off light by being made to apologize via the judge’s orders. But since Sheriff Arpaio is instructing his deputy to disobey the judge’s orders the judge has no choice but to charge the deputy with contempt and I am betting on the penalty being more severe. Latino as well as Jewish community leaders in Maricopa County have accused Sheriff Joe Arpaio of numerous civil rights violations and this has just given them more ammunition against him.
@jwas65 – The accused was not the only one who saw this happen, the video camera should also speak for itself. As much as we should enforce immigration laws and that the United States is a country of laws the door swings both ways. Just because someone is here illegally at the same time we cannot violate said person’s right to due process while they’re in our custody. This is about RESPECTING this country’s institutions and procedures and the sheriff’s office has not done that.
I happen to be a former prosecutor and current defense attorney and, even when I was a prosecutor, I couldn’t imagine an officer taking a paper from a defense attorney’s file. The fact that the defendant might have given the lawyer a letter which had not been reviewed by the jail is not a defense because it’s perfectly legal and appropriate. Communications between lawyers and clients are sacrosanct–even if they contain confessions or even plans for future crimes. It’s . . .
. . . up to the lawyer to reveal them if they contain plans for future crimes–that’s not law enforcement’s call. In fact, jails are not even ALLOWED to read any letter between a lawyer and client. Searching for contraband doesn’t require reading. Fire and prosecute him. The Sheriff too if the Sheriff ordered it. What happened was a crime, it was contemptuous of the court, it was a violation of the oath of office, and it was just plain wrong any way you cut it.

While this might not be okay in Marikofka County, in the US it’s acceptable. Still if this wasn’t acceptable in Joe’s Police State, you’d think the defendent was searched before entering court, wasn’t he? So if he had unacceptable property, it would have been seized? The defense attorney states on tape that her file had been examined by the deputys before court.

Courtroom procedure under Anglo-American commin law standards dates back for centuries, except in Maricopa County. Lawyer-client priviledge is sacrosanct except in specific and very limited circumstances.
1. The deputy should have been arrested by state police and jailed.
2. When the sheriff announced his defiance, he ought to have been jailed.
3. Enough civil rights violations have occured against ethnic mexicans for the Government of Mexico to have grounds for military intervention on behalf of ethnic mexicans and mexican nationals.
4. There is precdent in international law for the Mexican government’s right to take the Sheriff into custory and to try him in Mexico
