if the marriage was unconsummated(no sex) that is grounds for instant divorce
you can file the paperwork yourself. get a petition for dissolution of marriage from your local clerk of court and fill them out yourself. really not difficult. good luck!
Uncontested/no fault, can be done yourself. Mutually agreeable division of marital property, etc. Most states now require pre-divorce counseling and if there are assets over a certain thresh hold, you quick divorce is not allowed. Check your state’s laws. All in all, 45-60 days start to finish.
in louisiana: i did my divorce myself, i typed it up (unrecon.diff) and brought it to the court house.it is published in the news paper and if he/she doestn’t contest it will be done in 16 days.no court, and only cost $150.
The quickest divorces are when there is NO grounds and you file a simple dissolution…if he/she agrees and signs, it’s over within 30 days, no lawyers no hassles.. you can even file the paperwork yourself. You do not have to have a reason and spend thousands in lawyer fees.
Yes, uncontested is supposed to be quicker, however, if your spouse decides to play mind games with you, then things tend to drag.
good luck. check rates for lawyers..if you are lucky enough to find someone who charges around $100.00 to $125.00 per hour..take it.
I have been separated now 14 months, and we are only NOW going to sign a separation agreement…and that too..he’s giving me a hard time about dividing the house contents.
grounds of adultery is the quickest. they have "pro se" divorce clinics where you dont have to hire a lawyer. my fiance has been divorced and she went through the "pro se" divorce clinic. she paid %150 and represented herself. it’s not hard. only you have to wait a year and get divorced on grounds of irreconciable differences. there cant be any children or any property to fight over! that just makes things harder. check with your local health department (yeah, the health department) about when they’ll hold their next "pro se" meeting.
infidelity and unconsummated marriage are the two grounds for a quick divorce.
