Where should I work as a tax lawyer – the USA or Australia?

I’m currently a tax lawyer working in Melbourne Australia. Quite bored in Melbourne and work is slow because of the economic times we are going through. I have an opportunity to work in either Sydney or in the without prescription drugs US (LA or New York). If I move to one of the US cities, I will of course have to sit the applicable Bar Exam. I am thinking that Sydney will be mostly like Melbourne. Is it worth moving to a new country (i.e. the US) and which city in the US would be best in terms of lifestyle – NY or LA? Thanks in advance for any guidance….

You state you have the opportunity to move to one of the US cities, or Sydney. Realistically the salary in Sydney and living costs will probably be on a par with Melbourne. Sydney is closer to visit friends or family if they are in Melbourne.
Your next step should then be to assess the living costs and salary associated with the positions in LA or NY. If these jobs are offered by your employer it should be relatively easy to get this information from your office or the international office that oversees those cities.
If you are looking for input from the Answers members you would do better to post your question in one of the US categories such as taxes US as there would be regulars on there who could give you more lifestyle advice specific to those cities.
